May 10th Weekly Updae

May 10, 2013

Teacher Appreciation Week was this week, and I want to thank all the families for the many gifts, cards, and tokens of appreciation that our teachers received. They were so delighted! Thanks again for all your support and for thinking of them!

Last weekend our two teams took both 1st and 2nd Place in the Plywood Regatta in Dania Beach.  Dania Beach (Marine Industries Association of South Florida's) Plywood Regatta.  This event is on both Saturday, May 4th (building day) and Sunday, May 5th (racing day).  Currently, we have two teams of six registered for this boat building event.  The students are all 8th graders.  For this event, we have 3 teachers working as chaperones/mentors and faculty advisors: Steve Allen, Yvette Pearson and Carlee Consagra.  It should be a good time! Check out their website at http://plywoodregatta.wordpress.com/.

There are also numerous other field trips planned to enhance your child’s educational experience. Please note these dates below. Book Fair is scheduled for May 20-24, and we need volunteers! Book Fair is very important as we take all profits in books to enhance our classroom libraries, and we love being able to offer our students a great variety of books to read. If you can volunteer, please call Ms. Dorey Spero at 561-547-3775.

Graduation information for 8th Grade ParentsGraduates are to report to the Riviera Beach Marina’s Newcomb Hall promptly at 5:30pm on Wednesday, June 6, 2012.  The dress code will be dark dress pants and a light-colored dress shirt with a tie for boys, and dressy top and skirts/dresses/dress pants for girls.  Outfits must be modest and respectful of the dignity of graduation.  Remember that students will be walking up and down steps to get to the stage; please remember this when choosing shoes.  If you have any questions about the suitability of an outfit, please call me.  Students will receive a flyer within the next few weeks containing directions and further information.

May 5th Weekly Update

Friday May 3rd, 2013 Update

May 3, 2013

FCATS ARE OVER!!!! Congratulations to the students and teachers for trying to sustain their concentration levels for such a long period of time. It was quite difficult! Thanks to the parents for their support, and to our “little ones” for working so hard to stay quiet when the older students were testing in the computer lab. We made an outstanding effort throughout the school!

Congratulations to our new National Junior Art Honor Society members who were inducted this week and to Ms. Mejeur and Mr. Munier! These students are Dalili Concha, Samantha Bosco, Robert Kaszuk, Dillon McClain, Carolyn Amaya, Kyle Casey, Michael Bingham, Makayla Sears, and Sara Cabrera. We are very proud of these students!

Teacher Appreciation Week is next week. Our teachers work incredibly hard to educate our students, and it would be wonderful if families could acknowledge their hard work through a note, a card, flowers, or a small token of appreciation!

This week we received our plaque and banner for being names a “Green School of Promise”. We’re very excited and plan to continue initiatives to make our school more environmentally friendly. We are proud to be a part of this program.

Congratulations to the Palm Beach Maritime Academy students who participated this past weekend in the 9th Annual Florida Regional Underwater Robotics competition in Miami.  The competition was sponsored by MATE (Marine Advance Technology Education).  Fourteen students made the trip to Miami’s MAST academy to compete in the Scout Division.  Out of seven schools from around the state, Palm Beach Maritime Academy’s Team Tigersharks took 3rd place.  This year’s mission centered on simulating the installation of an ocean observatory system.  In the weeks before the competition, teams were asked to design, engineer and build a ROV that could accomplish the installation.  Teams were also asked to pass a safety inspection before the competition. Overall, this Saturday in Miami on Key Biscayne was a wonderful educational opportunity and the students enjoyed the day tremendously.

On other maritime fronts, the weekend following this one is the Dania Beach (Marine Industries Association of South Florida's) Plywood Regatta.

Tomorrow we will have an Open House for new and prospective parents from 10:00am – 11:30am.

April 26, 2013

Congratulations again to teachers, students and parents for all their hard work during the first and second week of FCAT!! Everything is running very smoothly so far, and students are working their hardest!!   Believe it or not, the testing still continues! On Monday, several groups of 6th graders will take their reading FCATs, and makeups will continue as well. Please make sure students get here on time; students who are testing will not admitted into classrooms after 8:20am and will have to wait until the session is over. If your child is testing, please make sure he/she eats a good breakfast, sleeps well, and get a lot of positive reinforcement. If you want your child to have breakfast here, please make sure they get here no later than 8:05-8:10. Breakfast is FREE.

The remaining FCAT Schedule is as follows:
