Dr. Andy Binns -Chairman

Dr. Andy Binns retired in 2011 as the Director of FTE & Student Reporting for the School District of Palm Beach County, which serves over 175,000 students. He was responsible for insuring that student data was recorded correctly in the district’s Student Information System (TERMS) and accurately reported to the FDOE. Throughout the years, he developed scheduling procedures that ensured the district met the constitutional Class Size requirements, addressed remedial instruction, and accounted for all instructional personnel. Dr. Binns currently consults with charter schools across the state addressing their student scheduling and data reporting. He has been teaching finance/budgeting courses over the last 20 years for several universities and has developed curriculum for courses at the Graduate and Doctoral levels. He and his wife are avid travelers and have resided in Palm Beach County since 1988.

Dee Naukana-Member

Ms. Naukana was born and raised in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii. She is the daughter of a physical education, multi-sport coach, and summer school administrator father and a medical professional mother.

DeeEtte received a full ride athletic scholarship in softball to Arizona Western College where she received the Arizona Sun Journalism Award, nomination into the Who’s Who In American Junior Colleges, the Stephen Carlson Scholarship for Journalism, member of the “National Deans” List, member of Phi Beta Kappa, and became an Academic All American and after playing two years there transferred to Florida. She got her B. S. in Exceptional Student Education at Florida Atlantic College and later graduated Summa Cum Laude with a M. A. in Educational Leadership from NOVA Southeastern University.

A highly developed Educational Leader, Ms. Naukana brings a diverse background of academics, extra-curricular, special education, and administrative experience to all leadership roles. Having served as a teacher, coach and special education (ESE) coordinator, she understands the skills and attributes necessary to recruit and build successful school personnel teams. Her experiences as an administrator and principal in multiple settings (including charters and district assignments) have helped her develop a well-rounded and multi-faceted perspective on operational and compliance issues.

DeeEtte has a proven track record of working with challenging populations in innovative ways, including traditional, online, and blended models. As a district charter school compliance officer DeeEtte oversaw all aspects of compliance including Exceptional Student Education (ESE), English Second Language (ESL), FTE, and state mandated regulation of 17 charter schools in her district.

As an administrator, she led the turnaround of three different charter schools, two which were managed by the same organization. While working as a school leader she managed the growth of her schools FTE to double what it had been in previous funding windows.

Ms. Naukana’s specialty is start-up and clean-up of new and existing charter schools. She has been tasked with the takeover and management of operations at multiple school campuses, ensuring transparency and efficiency in budgeting, compliance, and performance.

Ms. Naukana, in 2001 was part of a two person team that created the first two charter schools in Palm Beach County serving intellectual challenged high school students, through age 22, utilizing the concept of community-based learning. These two schools are still in operation today and several other schools have been creating using the structure that her team created.

Ms. Naukana in February 2019 submitted 2 charter applications for alternative schools, one in Lee County and the other in Broward County which were approved by both counties.

Currently Ms. Naukana is the Director of Education and Principal at Sunfire High School in Oakland Park, FL and SunFire High of Ft. Lauderdale, FL since June 2014.

Dr. Melinda Coleman

Dr. Coleman is an Educational Leadership program professor for Nova Southeastern University: Abraham S. Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction. Dr. Coleman served in public education for 19 years. She previously served as a Middle School Administrator for the Palm Beach County School District, Palm Beach County, Florida; the Round Rock Independent School District in Round Rock, Texas, and the Mansfield City School District, in Mansfield, Ohio. Her proven leadership and team-building skills, coupled with the ability to direct strong teams in managing student, parent, and community are utilized for consulting with school districts to delineate and analyze their curriculum and leadership programs in order to develop strategic solutions to further their educational-planning goals. As a Middle School Administrator, her relationship development expertise helped her to aggressively build solid educational programs, stakeholders, and drive educational growth and student performance.

Mr. David Jackson -Member

Florida native, attended Palm Beach County Schools; graduated from the University of South Florida BA Finance and Florida Atlantic University, MBA. Married with two children.

Commercial banker in South Florida for over 40 years. Providing banking and financial solutions to business and middle market corporations in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach county. With TD Bank in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Volunteer experience includes: Palm Beach Maritime Charter School (Board Member), Boca Raton Rotary Club (past president and board member), Dare Run/Healthy Heart/Pirate Invasion Run (chairman), Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce, Boca Hoops (former board member) and the Pioneer Club.

Ms. Dionne Stone

A proud Seminole earning her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University with graduate degrees from the University of West Georgia and Nova Southeastern University. Ms. Stone has been an educator for 17 years and now serves in the position of Principal. She is an avid reader and tries her best to read at least one novel a month.

Shari Cooper, Parent/Facilitator Liaison

Mrs Shari Cooper has been a early childhood teacher since 1989. She has taught grades Pre-K through 2nd Grade in both public and private schools in New York and Florida. Mrs. Cooper attended Queens College in New York for her undergraduate and graduate teaching degrees. Mrs. Cooper taught Kindergarten for four years at PBMA and has been our Parent Liaison since 2016. The Parent Liaison's job is to bridge the gap between home and school by helping parents get the information and support they need to ensure their child's academic and social success.

Mrs. Cooper also organizes parent volunteers and fundraising.

Ana Tessier, Parent/Facilitator Liaison

Ms. Ana Tessier has been a Spanish teacher since 1997. She has taught grades 5th through 12th Grade in both public and private schools in Florida and New Hampshire. Ms. Tessier attended New Covenenat International College in Florida and Keene State College in New Hampshire for her undergraduate teaching degrees.

Ms.Tessier has been teaching Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Spanish 3 at PBMA Lantana 2 Campus (Middle & High School ) since 2014 and Advanced Placement Spanish since 2016. Ms. Tessier is also the Sponsor for the National Junior Honor Society and the National Honor Society as well as heading the Book Fair which runs twice a year. Ms. Tessier is also a member of the Sunshine Committee and spearheads fundraising efforts at PBMA. The Parent Liaison's function is to bridge the gap between home and school by helping parents get the information and support they need to ensure their child's academic and social success. She is looking forward to working with the Board, Administration, Teachers and Parents!
